Launching the site on WordPress 2.8, and using Google Gears to boot. This will be an interesting experiment while I finish up my work that I started on a new publishing engine that doesn’t rely on a stinky old relational database.
So far the new major features in 2.8 disappoint – demanding hostnames and login credentials without really explaining what they are, or why they are needed. WordPress, you need a hostname for what? Don’t you already know the site you are running on, and know where your plugins/themes are being hosted? Silly.

So I figured out the silly problem, and it was all about permissions. Would probably be better if WordPress simply said “hey man, I can’t write to the filesystem because you had a major brainfart and forgot to chown everything to the lighttpd user, m’kay?”
If I wrote a blog engine it would have a little sass.
